About Me

Welcome to NonFad Yogurt with Sandy Schlenoff!

Hi! My name is Sandy Schlenoff and I love talking, reading, and writing about fitness and nutrition. The complexity of the human body – all of the things that need to go right in order for us to go about our everyday lives – is fascinating to me. The fact that we live in a time when we understand how different foods and exercises affect our bodies, that we are learning how our brains create and redefine habits, and that we have the ability to control so many of these things is nothing short of a miracle to me. Yes, genetics, family history, and the roll of the dice play a part in how healthy we are, but our choices also play a huge role. I love feeling healthy, strong, and confident and I’m excited to share my journey with you and help you along your own journey!

My Story

My interest in fitness and nutrition began when I was around 14 years old. Puberty hit and all of a sudden I had…well…curves. I had been a tall and skinny kid for so long and when my hormones kicked in, I just didn’t know what to do with myself. All of a sudden, I couldn’t eat whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. I started to feel self-conscious about my looks and my body. I began what would end up being a good 8 years of yo-yo dieting – up and down the scale through high school and college. I was never terribly overweight, but losing and gaining weight so frequently was wearing on my body. My self-esteem would rise and fall with the scale and more often than not, I felt pretty bad. Intellectually, I knew what I needed to do to be healthy. Eat healthy and exercise more. It seemed too simple; why couldn’t I get it?

What finally did it for me was the realization that I needed to change my habits. I needed to make eating healthy easier than eating junk. I needed to find little tricks to get myself to exercise (like going straight from work to the gym). By making small but significant changes to my thoughts and behaviors, by the middle of 2005, I had lost 20 lbs.

For almost 10 years, I’ve kept weight off. I’ve run 10ks and triathlons. I feel healthy and strong. I consider my curves some of my best features. It didn’t happen overnight, but with a lot of hard work and support, I made a long-term change for the better.
